Hermine Mary Morrison
Born in Czechoslovakia in 1935, Hermine was just four years old when Nazi Germany invaded her country and things changed from bad to worse. She suffered rape from an in-law and abuse from others. She vividly recalls the terror of bombing raids and the post war occupation by Russian forces.
In 1956, at the age of 21, Hermine emigrated to Canada. It was not an easy start but eventually she found some level of peace , although her terrible start to life will never be forgotten.

Tears on the school desk, blood on the path
While the horrific events of this book took place during World War II, Hermine’s tragic experiences are relevant today as the conflict in the Ukraine repeats history.
This book shares the lived experience of a young child during the war in Europe in a country occupied by the Nazis and, just as brutal after the war, by Russian occupying forces. The story continues as she is taken advantage of as a new immigrant in Canada at the age of twenty one.
